Estimate Your High-End Remodel
How our Bay Area remodel cost calculator works
Every number comes from our own prices, current as of October 2026, for the kitchens, baths and rooms we build in Oakland, Berkeley, Piedmont and nearby cities.
Each room gets its own card, so a kitchen and two baths add up the way they would on our estimate. Whole-house items, like a new electrical service or a seismic retrofit, count once. For a whole home, enter its size. Floors and walls for the rest of the house are priced on the square feet left after the rooms with their own cards, so nothing is counted twice.
What moves the number
How much is changing. Keeping the layout costs less than moving the sink, range or toilet. On a concrete slab, moving plumbing means cutting the floor open, and that shows up as its own line. Our kitchen cost guide walks through real jobs at each step.
Finishes. Each level lists what it includes, so you can see what the next one buys. The first level starts at semi-custom cabinets and quartz.
The house. A home built before 1978 adds lead-safe work. Old wiring or galvanized pipe widens the range. A hillside lot, or living at home during the work, adds to it.
We build to the standard of the Bay Area’s top firms without their overhead. We’re not the cheapest bid, and we’re not the most expensive one either.
Questions about the calculator
How accurate is this?
The prices are ours and current, so the range is real for the scope you picked. What the calculator can’t see is your house: what’s behind the walls, how the last remodel was done, and what your city will ask for. That’s why it gives a range, and why the range runs wider on older homes. A firm number comes from a visit and a real plan.
Why doesn’t it price by the square foot?
Because a remodel costs what’s in it, not what it measures. A small kitchen on a concrete slab, where the sink moves, runs $52,000 to $96,000. A large kitchen with the same finishes that keeps its layout runs $56,000 to $85,000. The calculator adds up the work first and shows a per-square-foot figure at the end, for reference.
What isn’t included?
Design, drawings and engineering are quoted separately. So is asbestos removal, if testing finds it. Repairs we can’t see until the walls are open, like dry rot, are priced when we find them. Permits are counted in the room lines.
What happens after I get my range?
Email yourself the breakdown, or book a call. The email has a link that reopens your estimate as you left it, so you can change it later or send it to whoever you’re planning with. If the project fits, the next step is a visit to the house, then a preconstruction agreement: design, drawings and permits, ending in a detailed construction budget.
